Answering the big question, what is the introduction of a research paper? It's the first paragraph of an academic research paper. A good research paper introduction needs to draw the reader's attention so that they want to continue to read the paper from cover to cover. The whole point is to draw people's attention towards the information you are trying to communicate. Let's look at some tips for writing an introduction.
First of all, let's look at the definition of the thesis statement itself. The thesis statement is what identifies your paper as a legitimate, specific essay. Now let's take a look at some tips for writing an introduction. Most people use introduction of research papers as examples of what not to do. In other words, instead of going and looking up a bunch of pictures of great things that have happened, you should spend more time looking at some great tips for how to write a research paper's introduction. So what can you learn from these tips?
First, consider that the tips for how to write an introduction of research papers are very applicable to any type of academic writing. The same rules or guidelines apply whether you are writing for school, or a thesis or dissertation. The first thing that you should do is to outline. There are many different outlines, but the most important ones to consider are the broad outline and the detailed outline. Using the wrong format can throw off your entire essay.
Next, consider the introduction itself. The introduction should start with the thesis statement. Then give an overview of your arguments, and make your point, logically following from your thesis statement. The purpose of this is to engage the reader and to convince them that your paper is worth reading.
Thirdly, you should then bring your points together with a conclusion. This should summarize your entire argument. You need to convince your readers that your thesis is correct and that your conclusions are valid. However, your conclusion does not have to restate your thesis statement with empirical proof. As long as your conclusion is based on logical reasoning from the evidence you have collected, and based on the arguments you have made throughout your paper, your conclusion should serve as the definitive part of your introduction.
Fourth, in an introduction to a research paper, you should always begin with an outline. This will allow you to focus on certain aspects of the topic that you are writing about, rather than being scatterbrained and unsure of where to start. Using an outline will also help to guide you through your research papers, and will prevent you from accidentally writing the wrong thing. You can use bullet points, or a formal outline; whichever method you prefer.
Finally, at the end of your introduction, you should offer a conclusion. Again, you want to be sure that your conclusion is based on logic and evidence. If it is too vague, your audience may become bored. If you choose to use a template to create your conclusion, you should always include a stronger version of your thesis statement, in addition to a strong conclusion. Your conclusion is your chance to shine, and if you make the proper connections and use appropriate language, you will give your essay a great shape, and a great look.
